DStv audiences are invited to Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and United Kingdom this week as M-Net's STUDIO 53 makes stopovers at these destinations during the latest episode of the lifestyle program!
First stop is Uganda where STUDIO 53’s Gaetano attends the wedding of one of Uganda’s top musicians. With several albums already under his belt, and a host of music awards to his name, Jose Chameleon is no stranger to the spotlight. Tune in as he hands over one of his titles: while he’s still Uganda’s most celebrated musician; he’s no longer the country’s most eligible bachelor. Joseph Mayanja and Daniella Atim were pronounced husband and wife. The couple chose the elegant Kampala Serena Hotel to celebrate their special day, and it was an occasion to remember.
Also in the program, STUDIO 53 heads to one of Kenya’s best kept secrets, the little fishing village called Watamu. It’s a postcard of seaside paradise and the perfect place to practice your seafood cooking. Always a keen cuisine student, STUDIO 53’s Fareed let Chef Isaac Chichir lead the way and show him how a perfect meal is done. Fareed had a great time, he learnt how to cook but he also had the beach as his playground. Who could ask for anything more?
Next stop is Lagos where STUDIO 53’s IK is no stranger to flying high! In Nigeria he’s known as IK aka Wild Child. A dj on Nigeria’s popular radio station, Rhythm 93.7fm, his golden tones have Lagos tuning in. And when the city has more than 8 million residents that’s no small feat. If New York is the city that never sleeps, Lagos is the city that never stands still. IK takes DStv viewers on a tour of Lagos from the place to eat, to the mode of transport, to how to dress for success and the hot spot and how to unwind.
Mini Buses are all over Africa but there is a new way of travelling in Durban, South Africa, it’s made getting around a whole lot more fun. Yesterday it was about moving on the dance floor, today it’s all about dancing on the move. There are rides that are been pimped out from graphics on the body of the mini bus to state of the art sound systems. And while blinged up taxis are quite new to the streets it has become an enjoying thing for motorists. While getting to their destinations they are dancing to the latest tracks. STUDIO 53’s Kudzai was inside one of the mini buses to experience it for herself.
Lastly STUDIO 53 heads to the United Kingdom where Chishala went to a suburban town called Brixton in London to have a chat with Godfried Donkor. She spoke to him about his work and why much of his work questions national identity. Recently Godfried exhibited new work at Hackney Museum. The work was commissioned by the museum to commemorate the bicentenary of the abolition of Britain’s transatlantic slave trade. It’s a body of work that points to the past, comments on the present and questions the future.
DStv audiences in East and West Africa can watch STUDIO 53 on M-NET on Thursday July 3 19:30 CAT and on M-Net Series on Saturday July 5 18:00 CAT.
