*Nicholas "Nick" Broomfield* is arguably the best documentary filmmaker in
the UK. A multiple award winner with a string of controversial and exciting
documentaries to his name Broomfield is an asset that ZIFF is proud to
welcome.
Broomfield works with a minimal crew, just himself and one or two camera
operators, which gives his documentaries a particular style. Broomfield is
often in shot holding the sound boom.
Broomfield was awarded the BAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution
to Documentary, and was given honorary doctorates from Essex and Surrey
University. He was awarded the Californian State Bar Award for his
contribution to Legal Reform.
Broomfield would be running a couple of workshops on documentary during ZIFF
accompanied by line producer for his next production line producer is Donall
McCusker.

*Donald Ranvaud* is a British film producer and film journalist.
He has had producing roles on a number of Oscar nominated films including
the Constant Gardener (2005) City of God (2002) Central Station (2002) and
Farewell My concubine (1993)
His presence at ZIFF would add to the knowledge base of ZIFF participants
this year as he participates in a number of workshops and events. Ranvaud has
continued to discover filmmakers, helping them to access world markets. He is
an ambassador for Latin American cinema, setting up joint ventures with
Cinergia in Costa Rica for Centro America, and with the Puerto Rico Film Fund
Since early 2005, first as Head of International Relations with Rain
Networks, Brazil and later independently, he has focused on what he considers
to be the central question for the future of a possible cinema - a cost
effective distribution platform that becomes the new digital paradigm for the
fruition of the cinema that matters.

*Danny Schechter*, nicknamed "*The News Dissector*," is a television
producer , independent filmmaker, blogger, and media critic who writes and
lectures frequently about the media in the United States and worldwide.
Schechter's media experience in the major U.S. corporate media is
considerable. His career began as the "News Dissector" at Boston radio
station WBNC, Later, Schechter was a producer for the ABC Magazine 20/20
. He later produced 50 segments for ABC and won two national Emmy Awards and
was nominated for two others. Schechter joined the start-up staff at CNN as a
producer based in Atlanta. In all, Schechter has reported from 49 countries.

*ZIFF Festival of the Dhow Countries will take place between ** 18th June
– 26 June 2011 **in Zanzibar.** *
*Article 1*: ZIFF-SEMBENE is open to all African films and Co-productions
between Africans and other nationalities .
*Article 2*: ZIFF-SEMBENE reserves the right to accept any films with a
specific interest to the festival.
*Article 3*: The films submitted must be on social, political and
developmental issues with the intention to inform, educate, entertain and
importantly, to motivate and stimulate audiences to take action, film that
are tools for social change
*Article 4*: Entering a film into ZIFF-SEMBENE requires that the director or
producer send the following materials to ZIFF no later than *15th April
2011.*
Notification of SELECTED films will be made by 30th May 2011* on the

ZIFF will not assume responsibility for mistakes in shipping nor for damages
caused by poor packaging or transport. Further, ZIFF cannot be held
responsible for damages resulting from initial poor condition of DVDs.
*Article 6*: Any officially selected film cannot be withdrawn during the
course of the festival.
*Article 7*: Return of films will be at the cost of the Producers.
*Article 8*: Any film at ZIFF may have five (5) public screenings at the
most, throughout 2011, including one press showing. However, further
screenings could be organized if the producer so agrees.

*Article 9: *ZIFF* *shall be responsible* *for selecting the films.
*Article10*: Participants in the official competition must meet the
following* *conditions:
- Director must be an African, or Creative Team has African or
African Diaspora input. Co-production with African or African diaspora
companies is acceptable.
- Release of film should not exceed two (2) years of age as of
*15th April 2011*
*Article 11*: Deadline for film prints reception is *15th April 2011*. *Any
films sent to ZIFF after reception deadline will not be accepted.*
Article 12: A cash Awards of $5000 will be made to the winning film to assist
filmmaker with their next film project.

Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH"
-------- ZIFF AT FESPACO
------------------------------
ZIFF's Marketing Manager Laurian Kipeja is currently in Ouagadougou, Burkina
Faso attending the 22nd FESPACO.
During his visit Kipeja will represent ZIFF at the final Project meeting of
the CINETOILE Project. The main aim of the project is to encourage the
promotion and distribution of African films in Africa. ZIFF has been showing
African films in Zanzibar, Mwanza, Musoma, Dar Es Salaam and Bagamoyo as part
of this project. The reports will analyse the capacity for African cinema to
enhance cultural communication between african nations.
Cinetoile is a project set up by Africalia and funded by the European
Commission.
