Kampuni ya simu za mkononi ya Airtel ikishirikiana na shirika lisilo
la kiserikali UNESCO kwa pamoja wamezindua Radio jamii katika kijiji
cha Ololosokwani kilichopo Loliondo Wilayani Ngorongoro Mkoani Arusha.
Uzinduzi huo ulihudhuriwa na kufanywa na Waziri wa mawasiliano sayansi
na technologia Mh Makame Mbarawa.
Mradi wa Radio za jamii ni program maalum inayoendeshwa na Airtel kwa
kushirikiana na UNESCO yenye lengo la kusaidia jamii zilizo na
changamoto mbalimbali ikiwemo za mila potofu, elimu duni, ukeketwaji,
imani za kishirikina, maendeleo duni , ukandamizaji wa wanawake na
watoto na changamoto zinginezo. Maeneo hayo pia mbali ya kuwa na
changamoto huduma za mawasiliano ni duni na upatikanaji wa huduma za
radio kwaajili ya kuelimisha jamii ni changamoto kubwa.
Akiongea wakati wa uzinduzi wa radio hiyo, Waziri wa Mawasiliano
Sayansi na Technologia Mh Makame Mbarawa alisema” ninawapongeza Airtel
na UNESCO kwa jitihada zenu hizi katika kuendeleza mawasiliano nchini
hasa vijijini, mimi nimefurahishwa sana kuona wadau hawa wanavyojiunga
najamii ya kijijini hapa na kuwaunganisha na sehemu nyingine za dunia
kwa kuweka radio hii ya Loliondo FM ili kuwawezesha kupata habari na
taarifa muhimu kwa maendeleo ya taifa”.
Hii ni fulsa ya pekee kwenu wakazi wa kijiji cha ololosokwani pamoja
na vijiji jirani kuinua shughuli zetu za kiuchumi, kutumia radio hii
kutoa maoni na elimu, Naamini vipindi vitakavyorushwa vitakuwa
vimelenga jamii husika na kuwa chachu ya kuleta ufanisi mkubwa katika
mabadiliko na maendeleo kwa ujumla”. Aliongeza Mbarawa

haya na vijiji takribani 14 vya jirani watanufaika na kuwepo kwa redio
Loliondo fm hapa ololosokwani. Tunategemea kuona maisha ya ndugu na
jamaa zetu wa jamii ya wamasai na wageni waliopo hapa yakibadilika kwa
kasi katika Nyanja zote”

inayofuraha kuona mradi wa radio unakuwa na kuwafikia wananchi wengi
nchini kwa ushirikiano wa Airtel, kuwepo kwa radio hii kutaunganisha
wakazi wa Ololosokwani na wale wa maeneo mengine nchini na dunia kwa
ujumla. UNESCO tunayo miradi mingi sana ya kusaidia jamii na Mradi wa
Radio hapa Olosokwani umetusaidia kuona maeneo mengine mengi ya
kuweza kusaidia jamii hii ya kimasai, leo tunayo miradi mbalimbali
tuliyoianzisha hapa ikiwemo Mradi wa Solar (umeme wa jua) ambao
utawawezesha akina mama kupata kipato. kwa kupitia mradi huu wakazi
wa hapa wamepata sehemu za kuchajia simu zao na kuweza kufanya
shughuli zinazohitaji umeme kwa malipo kidogo”.
“Halikadhalika tumeweza kurekebisha nyumba za kimasai na kuzifanya
ziwe na muundo wa kisasa unaotoa moshi nje ya nyumba na kuzifanya ziwe

Uzinduzi wa kituo hicho cha radio ijulikanayo kama LOLIONDO FM
uliambatana na ugawaji wa vitabu vya masomo ya sayansi kwa wanafunzi
wa shule mbalimbali kijijini humo kutoka kwa kampuni ya Airtel ikiwa
ni kuwahamasisha wanafunzi wengi kupenda fani ya sayansi wakiwa tangu
wadogo kitu ambacho kitachangia kuongeza idadi ya wataalamu wa sayansi
hapa nchini
Airtel kwa kushirikiana na UNESCO inaendelea na mradi wa radio jamii
unaotegemea kufikia maeneo mengi zaidi nchini ikiwemo Sengerema
Mwanza, Karagwe Kagera, Chake Chake Pemba, Makunduchi Unguja ,

AIRTEL AND UNESCO PARTNER TO BRIDGE RURAL COMMUNICATION
• Launch the first community radio in Ololosokwan, loliondo, Arusha
• The project investment of approximately 100,000 US dollars per Radio
• The Plan is to reach More than 10 sites in Tanzania mainland and the island
Arusha, Tanzania 17th November 2012…Airtel Tanzania in partnership
with UNESCO has today unveiled a community program that will enrich
communities living in the rural parts of Tanzania. The partnership was
demonstrated during the launch of the Community radio at Ololosokwani
village in Ngorongoro, Arusha where the local Maasai community
witnessed the first construction of a rural radio broadcast station in
the village.
The Airtel and UNESCO partnership in Ololosokwani Community Radio has
also seen the involvement of other partners such as Oxfam who funded
and facilitated the premises as well as a local based NGO, RAMAT who
will manage and run the projects in Ololosokwani.
Speaking during the launch of the project, the Minister for
Communication Science and Technology Hon. Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa said:
“I would like to extend my gratitude to Airtel, UNESCO, Oxfam and
RAMAT for their tremendous contribution and tirelessly efforts towards
communication development through the establishment of a Community
radio and Multimedia centre at Ololosokwani. I am confident that the
community radio project will connect most of the rural areas to the
rest of the world and facilitate them with radio communication.”
he added: “My Ministry is at the forefront of ensuring that all
communities in our Nation are adequately served by all forms of
communication tools that empower social and economic transformation.
The community in Ololosokwani and neighboring villages will have
access to information relating to business, social, political and
cultural developments that will eventually have a positive impact.
Speaking on behalf of Airtel, The Communications and Regulatory
Affairs Director, Beatrice Singano Mallya said: “Airtel is proud to be
part of the community transformation and we want to deliver positive
impact to rural communities that we work in through extension of our
network coverage and partnerships that empower. The establishment of
the community radio and extensive rural coverage in the Kilimanjaro
province is a testimony to our commitment to supporting rural
communities.”
She added: “We also believe our products and services available at
Ololosokwan such as Airtel money service will facilitate the Maasai
community with basic financial services including bill payment and
deposit of their funds in a most secured manner.”
Apart from radio program, Airtel in partnership with UNESCO has also
facilitated internet access through Multimedia Center whose launch
coincided with the Community radio launch. Equally, the mobile service
also provided education books to EMANYATA Secondary School.
On his part UNESCO representative Ali-amin Yusuph said: “UNESCO
is pleased to see radio community program expand thus reach more
people in the rural part of the country. With support from Airtel and
Oxfarm we are glad to see people of Loliondo connected to other parts
of the country and the world. This program will not only serve the
people in Ololosokwan village but also the 14 neighboring villages.
Radio communication has proven to be the medium with the most reach
offering the best educative and informative platform that will improve
leadership practice, advertise Maasai culture, products and expand
their market reach.

communities issues such as witchcrafts, high rate of HIV AIDS
transmission, women circumcision, illiteracy, child education (the
girl’s child not taken to school), while the main aim is to enhance
communication in rural part of the country. The plan is to have
community radio in other regions including Sengerema Mwanza, Karagwe
Kagera, Chake Chake Pemba, Makunduchi Unguja, Pangani Tanga, Kyela
